The Grand Imperial was built as a colonial hotel for the British Empire in the early 1900s when the country was ruled by the British.
It has a history of more than 101 years hosting many prominent personalities like The Crown Prince of England at Hotel, Lady Edwina Mountbatten, (Vice Regal of India), Shah of Iran, Prince Aga Khan, Rajendra Prasad, (President). Of India), Jawaharlal Nehru, (Prime Minister of India), Jai Prakash Narayan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, (Founder and President of Pakistan) and many famous names from Indian cinema such as Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, Vyjanti Mala along with many others.
The hotel was bought by the late Lala Bisambhar Nath, father of the current owners, at an auction on 01-01-1944. The hotel was formerly known as “Metropole” and later as “Imperial Hotel”. On the death of the late Bishambhar Nath, the hotel was split between the current owner Mr. Anil Kumar and his uncle and was renamed “The Grand Imperial”. The hotel went through major renovations and resumed its operations in 2006 as “The Grand Imperial” after a span of 45 years.
From the hotel’s terrace, one can easily spot and see the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Jama Masjid and many monuments of Agra. Taj Mahal and Agra Fort are two of the three UNESCO World Heritage Sites along with Fatehpur Sikri.
